Fruhverse Technology
Before Catastrophe
Technology in this era can be considered on par with today's
Mundane Earth. Magic exists, and is not considered paranormal but an actual force and tool that can be used to manipulate forces beyond natural physical laws. Not much information about this era survives into the
Enlightened Era but it is known that large fission weapons were used extensively between nations. Geological surveys to examine polor ice records prove this fact, and it's common knowledge for someone educated within earth's influence to know.
The Intermediate
Little advancements are made in this period after the collapse of civilization. What is known, is that both copper and iron are rediscovered during the intermediate. Small nations form toward the end of this period, city-states. Democracy is reborn, as well as autocracy, and tyrannical and military rule.
Imperial Era
This is the period of time most akin to the Roman Empire on Mundane Earth. It's also where technological and magical development excel. Social sciences start developing, Psychology, Sociology. Early into the period you see advances in weapon's technology like catapults, ballista. Later, magical devices and weapons become more common, as well as advances in metal work. Running water becomes more common, sewers, medicine, scrying, and warding. Hardened carbon steel one of the key inventions leading up to gunpowder, then guns.
The Enlightened era
The most technologically developed period in the fruhverse. One of high-technology, and high magic. Or, Magi-tech. This is the current playable era from the Fruhverse. Many highly skilled individuals will know in some way shape or form how to manipulate common magical devices. Magery in the Fruhverse is somewhat limited to creating a device to manipulate forces of magic (Proxy magic). Though, some individuals are adept at such things themselves, and can preform magic using only themselves, knowledge and study of metaphysical sciences, and significant willpower. This type of mage is fairly uncommon, though they are highly respected or renown for their skills.
--Common devices--
Batteries: Many different types of power storage exist. Mundane lithium nanolace batteries, power small devices, like watches and clocks. While high capacity and easily refuelable Fructose fuel-cells are very commonplace for high-powered portables such as laptops and large flashlights. On the highend of power storage is a device called a Magi-coil, which is essentially a way to store energy potential in a magic form-factor. Typically, these Magi-coils are reserved for vehicles such as cars, and airplanes, though spacecraft are known to carry large banks of them.
Fusion Reactors: Devices that while not always huge, typically need large pumps, cooling, support and maintenance to run. Starcraft use these almost exclusively for power generation. Most are produced by the Dekar Corporation's Vanguard shipyards on Vega 4, and the Rent Enterprise's Earth Lunar Shipyards. Spacers as well as military seem to choose between these two out of personal preferences and needs, as Dekar's powerplants are well engineered and need less maintenance, they are expensive and less powerful than the smaller more delicate powerplants produced by Rent Enterprises. General working theory is the same for most of these powerplants, in that they use several high speed and high pressure hydraulic rams to start a self perpetuating 'hydrogen smasher'.
Guns: Known as Slugthrowers to most spacers, or just guns to terrestrials. Common caliburs in the Fruhverse are the .45 Automatic and the 7.62x25mm Automatic. These are ancient technology by most standards, yet they are still cheap and efficient weapons. There are ungodly amounts of known gun manufacturers. Tazers as well as magic-based tazers are also common, though magic-based weapons are known not to work well close to magical sources of power generation, as such, due to Magi-coils, they don't work very well on spacecraft. Electrolasers are particularly common as both tasers and as high-energy weapons, though they don't work at all in a vacuum. Flachette rifles are very popular assault weapons, and anti-armor guns...which fires a high density fin stabilized dart at velocities around five thousand feet per second. Flachette rifles are ineffective at best on personelle, as they tend to pass right through without doing much damage.
Vacuum Foam: A special type of sealant that is usually sandwiched in spacecraft hulls. It can seal fairly large puncture holes or other cracks or spacecraft hulls. It hardens to about as hard as aluminum, with some formulas being even more durable.
Computers: Most computers use synthetic neural material or
NeM, modeled after biological brains. They are able to store vast amounts of data, and process information faster than the limits of semi-conductor technology. Most of these are hybrid semi-conductor/
NeM for the sake of ease of programming and interface. Standardization is a big problem, so algorithms have been developed that help with adaptive and active compatibility.
