Daniel is an overweight university student cursed with several types of inherited or acquired diseases which still plague him. He has learned to live with these diseases as a part of him, although he still hopes for a cure - even moreso now that he's on Kaerwyn, a place where anything can happen.

He is strong-willed and stubborn, especially when it comes to arguements. Having studied biology and lost his father slowly after a stroke heavily damaged his brain, he considers life in all forms precious and is something of a waking eco-activist. He also has high intelligence with a borderline gifted mental capacity, however this is tempered by a lack of world experience and physical ability. He's a quiet and logical thinker, unless something provokes him. He hoped to go to medical school once he was out of university and become a researcher of some sort, dedicated to finding new ways to save the unsavable. This was cut short when, one night, practicing with his .22 rifle during a bout of insomnia, a rift opened in front of him and sucked him inside without a trace.

He still carries his old .22 rifle, and a Marine KA-BAR knife, having been something of an edged-weapons collector in his spare time. He's a good shot, and while inexperienced in close range combat does have training in the Japanese martial art of Aikido.

His most notable physical disability is a leg disorder which causes his kneecap to slide around when walking, and even dislocate if put under enough stress. This means he is not steady on his feet, although his martial art training has helped to alleviate his balance problems somewhat.

Character relations:
Evelyn: Evelyn was one of the first few to welcome him to Kaerwyn, and keep him calm during the harrowing experience of learning where he was, after being jarred from a mundane existance into a wholly extraordinary one. It was more or less instant attraction after that - he harbors a deep crush on her, though he'd probably rather die than admit it to her. Being alongside her in the face of adversity has shown him just how fragile her mental state is, which reminds him of someone he knew long ago. He is fiercely protective of her as a result, and willing to go to any lengths within his power to help her, emotionally, mentally or physically. When Evelyn is involved, he cares little about danger.

Thomas Trossen: Tom was one of the small group that welcomed Daniel to Kaerwyn, and the main one who prevented him from reacting badly to the news that he wasn't where he once was. As a result, Daniel considers Tom one of his closest friends, and something of a mentor. He's quite appreciative and respectful of his medical skills, having been taken care of once when he passed out in the wake of a battle for survival.

Endymion: Cultural differences, Daniel's inquisitive nature and headstrong persistence, and Endymion's natural Raekartan suspicion pretty much guaranteed that these two were to be, at least socially, at each other's throats. After a series of tense arguements, Daniel considers Endymion to be someone who at least has the social graces not to resort to threats, but has little respect for him other than that. In short, Daniel thinks Endymion's an asshole, a sentiment that Endymion probably emulates towards him.

Kiaxo: Daniel was the first to really welcome this strange little fennec to Kaerwyn - a concept that he's still trying to get the primitive to understand. Despite Kiaxo's stubbornness when it comes to accepting that Kaerwyn is a different world instead of just another place on Errux, Daniel has taken a liking to him. From Daniel's point of view, Kiaxo's comments full of brevity, honest nature, and good heart have definitely painted him in a positive light. However, he still knows very little about the guy.

Tunc: Daniel originally thought Tunc was just a maurader out to do some pig-headed act that he mistakenly thought would somehow be beneficial to Evelyn, who at the time of their first meeting was suffering from some sort of post traumatic stress disorder in the wake of a strange creature that they had faced together. Tunc had forced him to stop leading Evelyn to the doctor, something that initially enraged him - the two almost came to blows despite the fact that Daniel knew very plainly he would not win. After Tunc actually did help Evelyn, Daniel remained in a tense demeanor towards him. Over time, however, Daniel's emotions have cooled, and he has realized that Tunc is somewhat similar to himself: They both care about Evelyn deeply, and are willing to go to any lengths to help her.

Callie: Daniel's boss, someone who he respects both for her businesslike nature and kind work ethic, having given him a break when he made mistakes that left him unable to work. He usually calls her "Boss". She's also put him out when he combusted thanks to a randomly rifted fire-lizard, most likely saving his feet from first-degree burns. Needless to say he's quite thankful towards her.

Batai: Another one of the initial people to welcome him to Kaerwyn, Daniel initially felt ashamed for treating Batai like something less than a sentient being once he learned the fox was indeed not wearing a costume, something he still feels a twinge of guilt about. He considers Batai to be a somewhat timid person, but Batai did put himself in froot's way to protect (eventually unsuccessfully) Daniel from being frooted. They've had sporadic contact since, although Daniel wishes to get to know him better.
